Girls Night from BASH

Modern DIY Placemats in less than 10 Minutes!

BASH

Well, I’ve been binge watching Project Runway religiously for the past month and saw one of the guys make some crazy pattern with….a hot glue gun! It inspired me to make these placemats to replace the Chilewich ones I so desperately wanted. Luckily these modern DIY placemats were literally the easiest DIY I’ve done with the biggest impact style wise. All you really need is a hot glue gun, glue sticks, and paint.

Materials

  • Hot Glue Gun
  • 4 glue sticks per placemat
  • Wax Paper
  • Something round to trace (I used a plate)
  • Marker
  • Spray Paint in any color

How to make it

Step 1: Start by tracing a larger plate or object onto the wax paper that is about 1-2″ wider than the plate you will likely use with the mats.

Step 2: Heat up your glue gun and start crossing the glue from end to end, zig zagging back and forth. Be sure to touch the ends of the circle, even rounding the edges to keep the circular shape. Once you have a good base set, then just go over areas that don’t look full. I let the glue dry, then went back to fill in gaps.

Step 3: When the glue has hardened, spray paint and let dry. You should be able to peel the mats right off the wax paper.
