Rhinestone Bridal Sash

Love by Lindsay

Bridal sashes are all the rage in current bridal fashion. They add bling to a simple dress, help complement jewelry and rings, and bring attention to your smallest part, the waist. Belts and sashes can be priced anywhere from $100 to over $1000 but, with a little creativity and about 30 minutes of time, we whipped this one up for just under $60.

Materials

  • Scissors
  • E6000 glue
  • 1.5-3″ satin faced or gross grain ribbon
  • Various rhinestone or beaded appliqués available at your local textile or sewing store.
  • You may also need a thin needle and ivory thread (optional step)

How to make it

Step 1: Lay your ribbon out on a flat surface and begin placing your appliqués in a pattern you like. You may have to cut the appliqués into smaller pieces to create a pattern you like. We used a swirled rhinestone trim and cut the ends to finish the pattern nicely.

Step 2: Using a small brush or toothpick, spread some E6000 onto the back of the appliqué and start to glue your pattern in place.

Step 3: Begin adding smaller beaded appliqués and other small details to fill out the sash. We used small organza flowers with beaded centres to add texture.

Step 4: Once all appliqués are glued on, let the sash sit to dry for at least one hour.

Step 5: This step is optional. If you want to reinforce the appliqués and beading, use a very thin needle and ivory thread to stich the appliqués to the ribbon. Use very small stitches on the front side of the sash and longer stitches on the back. We recommend this step for brides wearing a sash from ceremony to dancing, just in case!

Step 6: Tie the sash around your bridal gown at the natural waist line (where you are the thinnest) and tie into a big bow at the back. We left a few feet of ribbon and cut the ends diagonally to create a beautiful sash look for our belt. You can also bring the belt to your fitting and have your seamstress stitch the belt directly to your dress to avoid it shifting throughout your wedding day.
