#MakefulChallenge: Aprons from

Secret Ingredient Apron

Before I received my apron I knew I wanted something a little glam. So right away I thought gold and it had to have some hand lettering! Once I stumbled across this quote it inspired the rest of my design. I loved everything about this diy project from the velvet ribbon to the gold rhinestones!

Materials

  • Tulip brand gold fabric spray paint
  • Black craft paint
  • Black fabric marker
  • Black velvet ribbon
  • Gold adhesive studs
  • Gold adhesive rhinestones
  • Paintbrush
  • Paint tape
  • Pencil
  • Cardstock

How to make it

Step 1: Step 1- As soon as I opened my apron I was ready to go with the gold spray paint. I grabbed an old cardboard box and started to spray. This paint is relatively new to me but it's a must for projects that you want bright or deep colours on fabric!

Step 2: Step 2- After the paint was dry (the next day) I went to work taping up the pocket using painters tape. I also cut out a heart shape from a piece of card stock to act as a stencil for the pocket. I used the black craft paint, which took a few coats but was easier then trying to spray a small area.

Step 3: Step 3- Next I used the black velvet ribbon by cutting it into strips and adhering it at the corners with the adhesive pyramid studs.

Step 4: Step 4- Lettering time! I used a pencil to draw on my quote, the spatula and whisk. Then I used the fabric marker to fill it all in. Again that took a few coats, but the lighter layers the better so it doesn't run!

Step 5: Step 5- The last step was adding the sparkle with the adhesive rhinestones. They add some dimension to the apron and who doesn't love sparkles when they are slaving away in the kitchen!
