Sun Catcher

MAKE IT BIG, make it small

Jenny and Lucas discover how to blow glass into beautiful artwork. They use this inspiration to make a sun catcher from shrinkable plastic paper.

Materials

  • Shrinky Dink paper
  • Permanent markers
  • Steel ring, any diameter
  • Jewelry chain
  • Paper clips
  • Small metal ring
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Oven or toaster oven
  • Pliers
  • Fishing wire for hanging (optional)

How to make it

Step 1: Colour the Shrinky Dink sheets with marker and cut them into one-inch strips

Step 2: Punch holes into one end of each strip

Step 3: Bake the strips according to package directions. Experiment with leaving them in longer and shorter amounts of time and with twisting them into shapes as soon as they come out of the oven

Step 4: Cut three pieces of jewelry chain to equal lengths and attach them to the steel ring

Step 5: Attach the other ends of the chains to the small ring so you can hang the sun catcher later on

Step 6: Place paper clips all around the steel ring and attach the Shrinky Dink strips to the clips. Hang the sun catcher and watch the light reflect off of it!
