Jenny and Lucas are off to feed butterflies the sweat of their backs at Niagara Parks’ Butterfly Conservatory. Then they’re back to the craft space to make a beautiful butterfly feeder for the backyard.
Materials
- Terra cotta plant pot base
- Terra cotta pot sealer
- Outdoor tile glue
- Mosaic tiles
- Sanded grout
- Outdoor grout sealer
- Paper and pencil
- Scissors
- Tile cutter (optional)
- Latex gloves
- Wet cloth
How to make it
Step 1: Spray the pot base with terra cotta sealer. Let dry at least 15 minutes.
Step 2: Draw a butterfly onto a piece of paper and cut it out. Trace it onto the inside of the base.
Step 3: Trace it onto the inside of the base.
Step 4: Arrange your tiles in the design you want and glue them down, leaving space between each tile for the
grout. Let the glue dry for 24 hours.
Step 5: Spread grout between the tiles using a spatula or gloved fingers.
Step 6: Use a wet cloth to remove excess grout from tiles.
Step 7: Let the grout dry for 24-48 hours and then spray with grout sealer. Let the sealer dry for another 24 hours.
Step 8: Place your mosaic outside and fill it with sugar water and/or ripe fruit to attract butterflies to your backyard
