Makeful Challenge: Coasters from

Happy Coasters

I had this idea as soon as I applied for the Challenge. I was originally going to use textured cording, but I thought the variegated yarn would be more interesting and fun! My favourite thing about this project is that they’re all the same but different due to starting with a different part of the yarn on each coaster. I started by attaching the yarn in the middle with my glue gun, and went around in a circle trying to stay as even as possible. It was going well until I ran out of glue sticks as I was finishing the third one! Mod Podge to the rescue, and I think it actually worked better. Less stringies to deal with, that’s for sure!

Materials

  • Coasters (duh!)
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Mod Podge
  • Bernat Maker Home Dec Yarn (cotton/nylon blend) in Fiesta Multicolour

How to make it

Step 1: Wait until 9pm on the night the project is due. Procrastination has always been a key element in my project plans, haha!

Step 2: Glue a small portion in the centre of the coaster using hot glue OR Mod Podge. Place the yarn as tightly coiled as you can get it without looking squished, then alternate gluing and turning the yarn around the centre coil. Repeat x 3!
