Jenny and Lucas find out all about Monster Trucks. And then they bound back to the craft space to make a cool bouncing monster truck.
Materials
- 1/2 cup of warm water
- 1 tsp of borax
- 1 tsp of cornstarch
- 1tbsp of clear glue (clear Elmers glue works best)
- Craft sticks
- Balloons
- Styrofoam
- Exacto knife
- Model paint
- Glue
- Skewers
- Paint brushes
- Sand paper
- Needlenose pliers
How to make it
Step 1: Mix these ingredients together in a small cup until dissolved to create a solution: warm water, borax, cornstarch
Step 2: Pour glue into tablespoon. Drop spoon and glue into the water solution or squeeze glue directly into the solution
Step 3: Let sit for 30 seconds or so and then lift the spoon out of the water allowing the glue to drop back into the liquid. Use a craft stick to scrape off anything left in the spoon
Step 4: Using your hands, reach into the water and remove the glue glob. Pass it back and forth between your hands several times without squeezing and then put it back into the solution. Repeat several times, starting to squeeze the glue a little more each time. Use paper towels to dry your hands while handling and begin to roll into a ball. When it becomes sticky, put back into the solution. Keep repeating until the ball becomes firmer.
Step 5: You can try bouncing the ball after a while but be gentle as it may break apart if you bounce it too hard. It will still be slightly wet for a few hours during which you can gently roll it and bounce it. The glue balls are best stored in a container overnight. They will completely flatten out so keep the ball in a spherical teaspoon to help maintain its shape.
Step 6: Wrap a black ballon over the glue balls to help them keep their shape- and to make them look like tires!
Step 7: For the rest of the truck: Cut styrofoam into 38 inch by 5 inch rectangles
Step 8: Glue together and let them dry for 24hrs
Step 9: Trace monster truck frame onto styrofoam
Step 10: Start using exacto knife to shape the truck
Step 11: Paint and decorate
Step 12: Run skewer through Styrofoam in wheelwell and the bouncy ball tires!
