These earrings and necklace are the very small remnant of an ancient bigleaf maple tree, which grew in a playground in Nelson, BC. The tree had suffered from years of decay and fungal infection, so was removed for safety reasons. As the tree came down, it was discovered that the fungus infecting the tree had left its mark in the form of vibrant pink stains (or spalting) woven throughout the wood. I was inspired by this colour to create a Valentine’s Day set of jewelry and included metal heart inlays because, well, Valentine’s Day! A nice reminder that when we look for it, we can find love anywhere.
