Quilt-As-You-Go Hexie Coasters

Kaye Prince

I love hand sewing small projects! These little hexagons are made using a technique called English Paper Piecing which requires a minimum of materials and is extremely portable. For this little pattern I combined my love of small sewing and quilting to make these hexie coasters that are easy and fast, but also extremely cute! Make one or a few to brighten up your space, or make a set to give as a gift.

Materials

  • For Hexies:
  • 9 fabric squares measuring 2.5x2.5" each
  • 9 one-inch hexagon templates
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Hand sewing thread
  • For Coasters:
  • 5x5" piece of muslin or scrap fabric for foundation
  • 5x5" piece of thin batting
  • 5x5" piece of fabric for backing
