I could not decide which medium to use on my plain Makeful tote bag – paint, sew or iron on transfer – but I did know I wanted to add a quote and a floral design. In the end, I did a little bit of everything. I also added a little surprise inside because as everyone knows – it’s “what’s on the inside that counts” – so I added a felt pocket inside to hold my pencils and some business cards. My brightly coloured flowers are embellished with some of my vintage buttons and embroidery floss. The quote is one of my favourites – “Making things is not a hobby, it’s a way of life” – and I painted on using gold glitter paint. I finished the bag off by adding an iron on transfer label that I created so everyone would know that I handmade the bag.
